Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim paid a surprise visit to Bangladesh National Zoo in Mirpur of the capital on Monday morning.
The minister entered the zoo at 8.30 am without informing the zoo authorities.
He visited the cages of various animals in the zoo and inquired about various issues from the officials of the zoo.
Asked about the surprise visit, the minister said, “I am here to see if there any mismanagement.”
The minister made the visit amid uproar over the deaths of 11 zebras, one lioness and a tiger at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur in this year. Of them 10 zebras died from January 2 to 24.
